Brows that read as your own

Nano Brows are a form of cosmetic tattoo that places fine, hair-like strokes of pigment into the upper layers of the skin using an ultra-fine, single needle. Because the needle is fine, strokes can be placed with clean skin left between them, and that negative space is most of what makes a brow read as hair rather than as a filled shape.

The aim isn’t to give everyone the same brow. It’s to enhance the brows you already have, or gently rebuild what time, over-plucking or hair loss has taken away, so the finished look still reads as you — just tidier, more even and easier to live with.

The first session is deliberately conservative. Density can be added once the brows have healed, and clients who build up across two appointments are generally happier a year later than clients given everything at once, because the second session is planned around how their skin actually held the first.

The benefits of Nano Brows

• Natural, hair-like finish — fine strokes that blend with your own hairs, not a solid block of colour.
• Controlled placement — a single needle disturbs less skin per stroke than a clustered tool, which usually means tidier healing.
• Works across a range of skin types — including many mature and combination skins, although suitability is still assessed individually.
• Less morning routine — the shape is already there, so pencils and powders become optional rather than necessary.
• Designed from your own face — shape follows your brow bone and eye spacing, and stroke direction follows the hair you already have, so the brow sits where a brow would naturally sit.
• Useful where there is little to work with — sparse, uneven, over-plucked or absent brows are difficult to fake convincingly with pencil.

When Nano Brows may not be right

Some situations mean treatment is postponed, adapted or not recommended. Nano Brows are generally not suitable if you:

• Are pregnant or breastfeeding
• Have active skin conditions in the brow area (eczema, psoriasis, dermatitis)
• Are prone to keloid scarring
• Take medication or have a health condition that may affect bleeding or healing — tell your artist, and do not stop prescribed medication without advice from the healthcare professional who manages it
• Have very oily, large-pored skin, where strokes commonly soften sooner and a blended finish may hold better
• Want a bold, solid, made-up brow, better achieved with ombré or powder techniques

If Nano Brows are not right for you, we will say so and suggest a better-suited option. Suitability can be confirmed before you book treatment if you would prefer that.

Nano Brows for oily skin

Oily and combination skin can be more challenging for any hair-stroke tattoo, because excess oil can soften crisp strokes over time. Sebum works its way through the strokes as they heal, which is why the same brow can look crisp at two weeks and noticeably softer at two months.

For oilier skin we adapt stroke placement and density, and talk you through realistic longevity and whether a slightly softer, blended finish (or a powder/ombré effect) may hold better for you. What we won’t do is promise razor-sharp strokes that won’t last. Your skin is assessed on the day, and you will be told before anything starts if a softer, blended finish would hold better.

If you’ve had cosmetic tattooing before

Working over previous brow tattooing is more complex than a fresh canvas. Old pigment can sit unevenly, change colour as it fades, or be too dark or too large to simply cover.

Old pigment also changes what new pigment will look like, because fresh strokes placed over it heal as a combination of the two rather than as the colour that was mixed. That is why existing work is assessed, and where necessary corrected in tone, before shape is discussed at all. Please send clear photographs taken in natural light before booking, or come in first. Faded, well-placed work can often be worked over; work that is too dark, too large or sitting outside your natural shape usually needs a period of fading, or removal, before a hair-stroke result is realistic. Waiting is often the better recommendation, and we would rather say so than tattoo over something that will not heal cleanly.

Nano Brows aftercare

More retention is lost in the fortnight after the appointment than during it. During the healing period:

• Keep the area clean and dry as advised; blot gently, don’t rub.
• Don’t pick or scratch flaking skin — let it shed on its own.
• Avoid heavy sweating, swimming, saunas and steam for the recommended period.
• Keep brows out of direct sun; use SPF on healed brows to protect colour.
• Avoid makeup, exfoliants and active skincare (retinol, acids) on the brows while healing.
• Apply any provided aftercare product sparingly and exactly as directed.

Once healed, retinoids, exfoliating acids and pigment-targeting treatments applied directly over the area may accelerate fading. Discuss your routine with your artist or skincare professional. Risks & safety

Cosmetic tattooing is a skin treatment and, as with any such procedure, carries some risks — including redness, swelling, minor scabbing, uneven healing, colour changes, or (rarely) infection or allergic reaction. Working with a qualified artist who follows current hygiene standards reduces these risks but does not remove them. Medical clearance may be requested where appropriate, and treatment may be postponed if your skin is not in a suitable condition on the day.

At ELKA CLINIC we follow single-use and hygiene protocols, work within our scope of practice, and are direct about what pigment can and cannot do. Where a brow can be built up across two sessions, that is the approach we prefer, because starting conservatively reduces the risk of creating more density than the client wants.
